St. Francis Shadowbox

My mom is the sponsor to a lady that is going through RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). For those of you who don't know what this means, she's becoming Catholic. RCIA is also really great for Cradle Catholics. Its like a refresher course. I went through it 3 years ago with my husband when he became Catholic. I had suggested it to my mom and I'm so glad I did. She has gotten so much out of it. Not to mention the lady she's sponsoring has decided to become Catholic after her third time through RCIA.

With that, my mom wanted to give her something special for this wonderful event. After I gave her the butterfly shadowbox, she thought that something similar would be a nice gift. So we came up with a shadowbox with the image of St. Francis of Assisi and the prayer he is known for. St. Francis is her chosen saint. What I did was print an image of St. Francis on white paper then printed the prayer on a sheet of vellum. I didn't want St. Francis' image to compete with the words, so I put another sheet of vellum behind the prayer to soften the image. A couple of die cut butterflies and I was done. I think it turned out pretty nice and I think she will really love it.
