Trip to Louisiana

This weekend the family made a road trip to Louisiana. As I've mentioned before my mom is from South Louisiana and so we went for a visit. This was B's first road trip and S's second trip to Louisiana. First I want to say I am so proud of my girls, they were awesome. Of course I didn't expect B to not cry, but she didn't and S was so great. It takes about 5 1/2 hours to get there with out the 5 or 6 stops that are required with children. For us the trip there was about 7 and the trip back was only 6 (fewer stops, a couple of people were sleeping :).

We had a wonderful time. Saturday we were able to stop off at Avery Island and go to the Tabasco Country Store to do some shopping, visit my grandparents', great-grandparents', great aunt's and brother's graves (this is a very important part of every trip me make), hang out with my cousins and eat, eat, eat. Today we had breakfast at this great restaurant called Cafe Des Amis....delicious, its in Breaux Bridge....great town. If you can go on a Saturday there is a live band that plays Zydeco music, loud but fun.

BTW...my gal S either won't smile or look directly at the camera, but you can count on a goofy face. Oh, and B was sleeping during most of the pictures, that's why she's not seen here.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day!

First of all I want to wish my dad Happy Father's Day. However, he will certainly not be reading my blog. He doesn't own a computer and I can count on one hand how many times he's gotten on one. What! I don't think he's even gotten on one, just looked at the screen when I was on one. Let me tell you a little about my dad. I call him Daddy and he is special to me, however we aren't super close. My dad is quite a bit older...in fact he just turned 80! My dad grew up during the depression on a farm. He's known what real hard work is like. Amen and Hallelujah that I didn't have to. Grow up on a farm that is, not the hard work part. He married what was considered late in life back when he and my mom got married and I'm his only biological child. From the stories that I've heard from him and others my dad was a bit of rascal. He has worked very hard his entire life. We have had to beg him to retire. I guess when work is all you've known its hard to give it up. He loves Polka music and sitting outside in the 100 degree heat (I don't share this hobby). My dad has been a good dad. We may not be close, but he's always supported me and has given me whatever I've needed. Thank you Daddy....Happy Father's Day!

Now I want to wish my husband a Happy Father's Day. He's such a sweet dad. I'm sure he never expected to be a dad to two little girls. Well, in fact I know he didn't, he's told me so. But, boy does he love his girls.

And last but not least, my father-in-law. Happy Father's Day! I know you enjoyed your day yesterday doing something you love with both your sons.

Now on to the cards....

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #22

Can you believe I had time today to do another sketch challenge!?! So here's the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #22. I have a ton of the Rose Red card stock, so that was my starting point. Next, was what DSP has the Rose Red in it? Well that would be the Raspberry Tart. So there ya have it! That's how I came up with this cards color choice. I like it and I think I know who I'm going to send it to. I won't tell you who, she'll just have to wait and see.

Here's the sketch:

And here's my card....

Make a Wish

S's buddy R is having his 3rd birthday party this weekend. S is very excited to give R his gift. We've heard his party is going to be pretty spectacular...bounce house and everything. S is looking forward to it. She told my mom today that when she jumps in the bounce house everyone is going to yell, "Go S, Go!" Isn't that cute? And you know what, we probably will. Here's R's card...I love the Big Birthday Candle set. I think I'm going to hold onto this one. It works for every age birthday.

Ribbon Share and DSP Share

I'm awaiting the arrival of the new 2009-2010 Idea Book and Catalog. And like usual I will be doing a Ribbon Share, but this time I thought I would also do a DSP Share. Once the catalog arrives I will look over all that is offered and post the options. The Ribbon Share will most likely have about 6 different categories to choose from. The DSP Share will work a little differently. I haven't worked out all the details, but it will be a great chance to get all the papers that are offered by SU! Stay tuned.

Thinking of You

Emily inspired me to show some older cards, cards that were made long long ago. Cards that demonstrated my not so honed paper crafting abilities. I definitely think I have improved my skills over the past year. Here's a card that I made when I first became a demonstrator, I think. It may have even been prior to that. I think I did a pretty good job, but then again the DSP is really the focal point and you can't go wrong with that. I like this layout and its a great way to use any of your DSP. I might make more of these. I'm not sure why I never sent this out, maybe it was because it was one of my better ones and I hated to part with it. Can anyone relate?
